Cancer Tattoos

Zodiac themed body art has always been popular with tattoo enthusiasts of both sexes, not least because they are very versatile designs that can be adapted easily to make them more unique and personal for the individual. Those born between June 22nd and July 22nd were born under the sun sign of Cancer, which is represented by the Crab. This particular sign is ruled by the moon and the traditional cool our associated with it is therefore silver, which is a popular color used frequently in cancer tattoos. If this idea appeals to you then it is important to understand everything about this sign as it is one of the least clear cut of all twelve zodiac signs.

The twelve signs of the zodiac are split into four groups, represented by the four elements of water, fire, air and earth. Not surprisingly, as it is represented by the crab, Cancerians come under the element of water so signs in this category tend to be highly emotional and deep thinking individuals, whose inner thoughts and feelings are often unfathomable like a subterranean ocean. Therefore many Cancer tattoos feature water or waves in the design accompanied by the traditional crab image on its own or accompanied by its relevant the glyph symbol. Cancer’s glyph is very distinctive, resembling the numbers 69 turned to the right so that it is lying in a horizontal position and there various interpretations of the symbolism behind this. Some believe it represents a woman’s breast as Cancer is deemed to be the most maternal and nurturing sign of the zodiac. However it can also be seen as symbolizing two crab claws intertwined to represent the dual aspects of Cancer’s personality.

In some respects Cancerians emotional traits work in their favor as they are loving, sympathetic, intuitive and imaginative however they can also be moody, overly cautious, shrewd and over-protective. They find it very difficult to let go of things physically and emotionally, desperately clinging to the past or a lost love with the tenacity of a crab with something clutched between its claws. Like the crab, Cancer also has a habit of retreating into their own shell often particularly when they feel vulnerable, to protect them from being hurt emotionally.  Cancer is represented by the precious stone of the pearl so many female Cancerians in particular opt for a design of this nature for their cancer tattoos or for one of the flowers associated with this sign. These include the water lily or lotus, iris, white poppy, white carnation and southern magnolia. Floral body art is another big trend so combining one of these in Cancerian colors of white, pale yellow and silver with the Cancerian glyph makes a very beautiful tattoo design.
